How to Convert PDF to Excel
A spreadsheet makes extracted values easier to sort and compare. The converter looks for likely rows and columns from positioned text; it does not recover the original workbook or guarantee table structure.
When this is useful
Try this on text-based PDFs with clearly aligned table values. It is less suited to scans, irregular layouts, multi-line cells, and documents with complicated merged headings.
Steps
Check that table text is selectable in the PDF and note which pages contain the relevant data.
Upload the source to PDF to Excel and start the conversion.
Open the workbook and review sheet names, column boundaries, headings, dates, and decimal separators.
Compare every important total and a sample of values with the source before using the data.
Important considerations
- Table detection is heuristic and scanned-page OCR is not included. A successful workbook can still contain misaligned values.
- This workflow has a 50-page document limit. Do not treat extracted figures as verified without checking them.
If something goes wrong
If no table is detected, test a text-based PDF with clearer row alignment or copy the table into a spreadsheet manually. If the PDF is a scan, use OCR first and proofread its output.
