How to Convert PDF to Word
A Word document can be a useful starting point when you need to reuse paragraphs from a PDF. This workflow extracts selectable text into editable paragraphs rather than reconstructing the PDF's exact page design.
When this is useful
Use it for text-based reports, letters, or reference material that needs editing. If the PDF contains scanned pages, OCR is required before its text can be recognized.
Steps
Open the PDF and test whether you can select and copy its text. A page that behaves like a photo is likely scanned.
Upload the PDF to PDF to Word and start the conversion.
Open the resulting DOCX in a compatible word processor.
Review paragraph order, headings, symbols, and line breaks; revise the document before using it.
Important considerations
- Columns, tables, positioned labels, and page breaks may not map cleanly to flowing Word paragraphs.
- Scanned-page OCR is not included, and PDFs over the supported page limit cannot be converted.
If something goes wrong
If the output is empty or incomplete, confirm that text is selectable in the source. For a scan, run OCR with an appropriate tool first, then review recognized text for errors.
